A mechanic estimate provides customers with an accurate approximation of how much it will cost to repair or perform general upkeep and diagnostics on their vehicle or other machine. The completed form provides the mechanic’s name and contact info, the customer’s name and address, vehicle information, a list of expected charges, and the total estimated price.

What is Required

Customer Signature – Before performing most car and other vehicle repairs, the customer must sign a written estimate before work begins. Requirements for mechanic estimates and invoices vary by state and must be reviewed before beginning work or charging the client.
Change Order – Change work orders may also be required if the job goes too far over the estimated amount.

Required Information for Vehicle Repairs

Mechanic and client’s name, address, and contact information
The estimated completion date, fee (if applicable), and work completion date
Vehicle make, model, year, color, odometer, VIN, plate number, and insurance.
A list of all expected charges associated with the work and the estimated total cost.
The customer’s signature and the date.
