What’s Included in a Work Order?

  • Company & Client Info – Including their names, addresses, and contact information.
  • Job Details – Work location, timeline, description, and the worker assigned to the job.
  • Work Order Details – Work order date and number, and who assigned the order.
  • Tasks – A list of services and projected hours of work that will be required.
  • Materials – A list of the materials and equipment needed to complete the job.

Work Order vs. Change Order

Work orders and change orders may get confused with each other. However, they serve two very different purposes:

Work Order

  • Issued before work begins
  • Describes the assigned work and required materials
  • Authorizes work to proceed

Change Order

  • May be issued after work begins
  • Describes changes in project scope, cost, or timeline
  • Adjusts the original contract
