What to Factor Into an Estimate

  • Labor – Calculated as number of crew x wage x hours worked but often presented as a single amount.
  • Equipment – Should factor in maintenance, repairs, fuel, replacement cost (depreciation).
  • Disposal – Factors in the cost of chipping and hauling away debris such as limbs, trees, leaves, etc.
  • Overhead – The fixed and variable costs of running a service business (insurance, storage, marketing, admin, etc.)
  • Profit Margin – Many crews aim for about a 10-20% net profit margin (net profit ÷ revenue x 100).
