Whether to charge for an estimate depends on the nature of the estimate. Most companies do not charge for a rough, ballpark estimate provided over the phone, but once a technician has to visit a property to diagnose the issue, it is very common to charge the customer for the time spent. This diagnostic fee can be charged at a flat or hourly rate.
Some companies choose to waive the estimate fee if customers commit to the estimate.
