What to Include in an Estimate

Many states require certain information to appear on a motor vehicle estimate, which can include RV estimates. That said, some states explicitly exclude RV coach work from their definition of motor vehicle repair.^[1] Regardless of whether required by law, the following info is generally listed:

• Description of RV – Chassis make, coach make, model, year, odometer, VIN.
• Parts/Materials Cost – The description and state of the part (whether new or used).
• Labor Cost – The hourly or flat rate of the mechanic/tradesperson’s time.
• Diagnosis/Estimate Fee – The labor cost for diagnosing the problem.
• Transaction Total – The total cost of labor, materials, and tax.
• Authorization – The customer’s signature that authorizes work to begin.
