How to Estimate Drywall Costs

1. Calculate total square footage by multiplying each wall’s length by its height and each ceiling’s length by its width, then combine the results.
2. Add an extra 10%-15% to total square footage to account for waste.
3. Determine required number of panels by dividing total square footage by sheet size (standard 4′ x 8′ sheet is 32 sq ft).
4. Estimate material costs based on qty. of sheets, mud, and other supplies needed.
5. Apply 15%-25% markup on materials to cover overhead and secure profit.
6. Estimate labor fee based on project size and complexity.
7. Combine material and labor costs to calculate total estimate.

For small installations and minor repairs, drywallers often use flat rates instead of itemizing material and labor costs separately.
